Christopher Johnson quoted in Japanese newspaper Nikkan Sports News http://www.nikkansports.com/baseball/news/p-bb-tp0-20111126-868689.html 外国人記者10人だけ「なぜ会見?」 巨人の渡辺恒雄球団会長(85)を企業統治の観点から批判し、球団代表を解任された清武英利氏(61)が25日、東京都内で記者会見を開き、解任はコンプライアンス(法令順守)違反を隠すためで報復措置でもあり違法、不当なものとして「そう遠くない時期に必要な訴訟を提起する」との声明を出した。 外国人ジャーナリストは賛否両論だった。清武氏サイドが「国際的にも関心が高い」と日本外国特派員協会に設定した異例の会見。約1時間前まで行われていたオリンパス元社長の会見には約150人が集まったものの、直後の清武氏の会見に出席したのは約10人。配布された文章を読み上げる会見の序盤には、居眠りしてプリントを落とす人や、途中退出する人もいた。 騒動を生んだ最初の告発会見直後は全米1位の発行部数を誇るウォール・ストリート・ジャーナルでも報道。それを受けての会見場所だったが拍子抜けだった。スポーツをテーマにした日本人論で知られるロバート・ホワイティング氏は「なぜ会見を開いたのか? 場所探しは大変だったと思うが、なぜこの場所だったのか?」と一刀両断した。 ホワイティング氏 清武氏は巨人と読売新聞は別組織で従うべきコンプライアンスがあると言っていた。だが日本人全員が読売新聞が巨人を抱えていることを知っている。彼には共感するが、現実的にはミスター渡辺はショーグン。オリンパスのコンプライアンス違反は財政的なスキャンダルで別次元の問題だ。言葉の意味をはき違えている。 一方、清武氏をたたえる声もあった。ワシントン・タイムズ紙のクリス・ジョンソン通信員は「逃げずに言ったことはリスペクトできる。大リーグを見ても珍しいことで、日本企業にとって健全なことだ」と認めた。しかし、外国特派員協会での会見の狙いには「国際的に関心が高いからというよりは、多くの日本人に伝えるためのパフォーマンスだろう」と見透かしていた。【広重竜太郎】 [2011年11月26日9時36分 紙面から] CJ quoted in … Continue reading CJ quoted in Nikkan Sports News Japan
