Johannes and Williams are magic combo for France at World Cup

They are known as the “power couple” of Team France at the FIBA Women’s World Cup in Berlin.

Gabby Williams, who is captain of Les Bleues, and Marine Johannes are two of the most athletic and entertaining players in the tournament.

They led France to landslide victories in Group B over Hungary (99–53) and South Korea (95–69), and then over Germany to reach the finals against USA.

Williams and Johannès both scored 17 points against Hungary. Johannès then notched 17 points against South Korea, while Williams added 14.

Then France hit a record 22 threes against Nigeria. Williams hit 6 from beyond the arc while scoring 25 points. Johannes hit 5 from downtown.

They also led France over Germany 86–64 at the Uber Arena to reach France’s first-ever World Cup Final.

Williams is known for reading and disrupting plays, and then turning deflections or steals into quick transition points. She’s quick off the bounce, with an explosive cross-over move and an improved range from downtown.

Johannès is known as “The Wizard” for her athleticism, creativity and no-look or behind-the-back passes.

She can hit step-back and fade away jumpers off one leg, and also get to the rim with her speed and leaping ability.

As a dynamic duo, they are difficult to defend. Johannes can break down a defence, and Williams can finish from deep, mid-range or in the paint.

They are a main reason why many think France is the team that can consistently challenge US supremacy.
