It’s beautiful to watch Argentina win ugly.
They don’t have any global superstars like Manu Ginobli or Luis Scola. But like the older generation, this new generation of players (and the ball) seem to move faster than other teams.

In the FIBA AmeriCup semi-final, Canada could not match Argentina’s cohesion and intensity out of the gate. Argentina built a 20-point lead early and never looked back.

“We played very seriously and very completely,” said Argentina coach Pablo Prigioni, who starred alongside Ginobli and Scola. “We started the game very well with good concentration on defense and execution on offense. We played at a high level. We competed on every possession. Our guys are very focussed.”

Carr: “They came out more ready than we did,” said Canada’s point guard Marcus Carr. “We prepared the same way for every single came. Everybody came out with the will to win. But if we’re not making shots, not getting offensive rebounds, we’re in a disadvantage situation most of the time.”

“Their full-court pressure bothered us a bit but we figured it out and controlled the possession,” added Prigioni. “When they got more aggressive, we handled the pressure. That’s why we played with two point guards to control the ball better.”

Canada’s coach Nate Mitchell noted the shooting of Argentina, especially Jose Vildoza, Luis Fernandez and Gonzalo Corbalan. The ball finds the open man, and then the bottom of the net.

With Prigioni at the helm, Argentina continue to play like the powerhouse teams of the past.
