Basketball mania is taking over Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, at the gleaming Polideportivo Alexis Arguello arena, which almost filled to capacity of 9000 for Nicaragua’s opening game against powerhouse Argentina. Nicaragua fought hard early in a close first half but then had trouble scoring after a bat seemed to disrupt a shot. Many fans wore the colors of the Nicaraguan flag to cheer on the underdogs who are punching above their weight in the basketball world by hosting their first major tournament.
